- Carlos,

- In response to your fax problem, I had the same problem and returned the
- modem--the problem you are experiencing is in the firmware which is part of
- your socketed chip. I was informed that USR instituted the most current fax
- negotiation protocol which requires the sending machine to send its tone
- first, but in doing so, they didn't make it backward compatible with
- machines that don't send their tone first. When I wrote to USR about the
- reported problem, they didn't deny it, but said they couldn't help it if
- some machine doesn't meet the CURRENT standard since the Sporster does. In
- other words, Carlos, if you want to keep your modem, you can't receive faxes
- from the machines you're having problems with. If you do want to receive
- those faxes, get a different modem or wait until USR fixes the problem, if
- ever. Good luck (and get a dependable modem, such as a Motorola, like I
- ultimately did--just my opinion though).
